Utility Survey and GIS Update
Fort Jackson, South Carolina

With over 50,000 acres of ranges, training areas and cantonment area, Fort Jackson is home of the nation’s largest entry-level training facility. To meet infrastructure needs, the Directorate of Logistics and Engineering implemented an Intergraph AM/FM solution utilizing GIS and CADD during the 1980s. Over time, however, the installation saw funding cuts that made for haphazard updates with little standardization, control or completeness. In 2006, the remains of the once robust system were just a few CADD files with no associated tables or database and GIS shapefiles in similar condition. To bring Fort Jackson up-to-date technologically, Spatial Engineering was tasked to update the existing utility data, migrate data to SDSFIE, and consolidate CADD and GIS data. Upon completion, Spatial Engineering provided Fort Jackson with up-to-date utility information, over 3GB of associated feature photographs, and consolidated, SDSFIE compliant GIS data.
